Acts of Looking
Making Pictures was commisioned to consult and curate with Southbank Centre as part of this years WOW! (Women of the World Festival) to create Acts of Looking: a new digital project space that aims to curate online imagery that asks people to look again and think about the visual culture that surrounds them. The focus is to celebrate digital creative culture and present diverse range of imagery, ideas and cultures by collaborating with a range of established and emerging creatives. Acts of Looking Tumblr opens with a celebration of #Women, as part of the Southbank Centre’s Women of the World Festival. Making Pictures’ Lu Bowan and Southbank’s Sarah Toplis will continue to develop the project space as part of Southbank Centre’s wider Digital Artistic Programme.
Collaboration & community
We opened the space with an exciting collaboration, with Hannah Starkey on a series of #femalefocus images, building of her work with the Arts Council Collection for the Hayward Gallery’s History Is Now exhibition and showcasing a wider group of both emerging and established female creatives. Making Pictures’ Lu Bowan has also brought together a range of image-makers and #creativewomen across disciplines.
Acts of Looking Digital Showcase and projection, Royal Festival Hall Exterior
We launched the online space with a curated projection series on to the exterior walls of Southbank Centre’s, Royal Festival Hall. Which was a huge success and paves the way for the evolution of the online platform and future collaborations with our contributors and development of themes.
